Ben Helmink was born in Brummen, The Netherlands, studied Art and Art history on the Rietveld academy in Amsterdam. Worked as teacher on the Elementary school in Amsterdam.

In 2006 he decided to live in Portugal as a professional artist in Santana da Serra. Works a lot with sand structure in acrylic and oil. The themes vary from portraits and people in their daily circumstances to still life and history themes inspired by the classic art.

 

His atelier Monte das Moradias in the Southern-Alentejo is near the Santa Clara lake where he is inspired by the light, nature and culture of the region and shortly participate in the Art group Artistas Mundial.
